Anyone who has struggled with their health can understand the sense of uncertainty, fear and vulnerability that arises. The awareness that one’s capabilities are not what they used to, or somehow different than others can be an overwhelming experience. Physical symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, immobility, loss of bowel control, loss of speech and memory problems bring unique challenges. One’s sense of self can be threatened in the everyday experience of illness. – such as one’s identity as being independent. Certain illnesses, like cancer or heart disease, bring sudden and unexpected threats to mortality.

With chronic illness, there is an ongoing inner threat that never abates. With both acute and chronic conditions, individuals are challenged to manage their physical symptoms and the emotional reactions that accompany them. While the physical demands of an illness may or may not be seen by others, the emotional toll it carries can be invisible and down right exhausting.
Whatever your health challenge, I can provide a space for you to share your experiences. I know from my own chronic health challenges that connecting with a supportive other fosters greater acceptance. It will help you to find your “inner warrior” and become more resilient. It will lighten the load, and help you get the most out of life.
